#17 Men’s Tennis Secures 7-0 Victory Over Colby on Senior Day

The 17th-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team earned the hard-fought doubles point and recorded six straight-set triumphs in singles play to secure a 7-0 victory over Colby on Senior Day.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panther duo of Nathan Hernandez and Andrew Yim tallied a 6-4 decision over Kevin Mortimer and Sean Wang in the third slot. Julian Wu and Hugh Hentschel pushed Middlebury ahead 1-0 via a 6-3 triumph at #2. 
  • Hentschel opened singles by tallying a straight-set result (6-2, 6-2) over Marco Ziets-Segura in the fourth position, while Yim was victorious by 6-3 and 6-1 scores against Matthew Jeong at #6 for a 3-0 lead.
  • Clinchin the match was Reif Larsen, besting Sosa (6-2, 6-1) in the third position.
  • At #2, Thehan Wijemanne edged Rhys Spano (6-4, 6-3) to secure Middlebury's fifth point. The top spot featured Wu needing a second-set tiebreaker to get past Jason Daly (6-3, 7-6 (5)). 
  • Anand Sahasrabudhe nailed down the sweep, outlasting Bilal Asim by scores of 7-6 (2) and 7-5 for the final 7-0 tally. 

NOTES

  • Before the match, the program honored seniors Hentschel, Nathan Jackson and Wu.
  • Wijemanne collected his 40th career singles victory, while Hentschel posted his 60th triumph in doubles.
  • The sides met for the 17th time, with the Panthers winning each contest.

Middlebury closes out the regular-season portion of its schedule with a Sunday showdown against #11 Bowdoin. The first serve from the Outdoor Tennis Courts is slated for 12:00 p.m.
