#11 Middlebury Honors Senior Class in 7-0 Sweep of Hamilton

The 11th-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team breezed past Hamilton 7-0 on Sunday inside the Nelson Recreation Center.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers opened the battle by sweeping all three doubles matches. Ren Barton and Diya Pachamuthu cruised to a 6-0 victory in the third slot, while Elsie Van Wieren and Anna Lardner matched with the same result at the top of the lineup. 
  • Lulu Wu and Ananya Annapantula capped the paired action with their 6-2 win in the second position.
  • Middlebury kept the momentum in singles. Van Wieren cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 decision and Lardner dispatched Priyanka Challapalli in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) at  #1 and #2, respectively, to put the Panthers up 3-0.
  • Elizabeth Doak clinched the match for the navy and white moments later, besting Muhan Cui by 6-2 and 6-1 scores in the sixth position.
  • In the fifth slot, Charlotte McCann surrendered just two games in a straight-set decision (6-2, 6-0). Barton secured the sixth Panther point via her 6-3, 6-2 win over Mona Farah at #4.
  • Wu capped the sweep for the hosts, logging a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Mona Farah in the third slot.

NOTES

  • Before the match, the program honored seniors Lardner, McCann and Wu.
  • McCann secured her 45th singles victory as a Panther.
  • Doak moved her winning streak during individual play to five consecutive matches.
  • Middlebury claimed its 16th-straight triumph over Hamilton.

The Panthers head to Maine for two matches next weekend, starting on Saturday against Colby at 10:00 a.m.
