Women’s Track and Field Excels in Home Meet

The senior class was honored before Saturday's invite.

The Middlebury women's track and field squad tallied 14 event victories, including a sweep of the field events, during the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday from the Allan Dragone Track and Field Complex. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The 4x100-meter relay quartet of Katie Bruno, Jazmyn Hurley, Melissa White and Olive Lawrence clocked a program-record time of 47.41 seconds to grab top honors.
  • In the long jump, Lucy Pollitt (5.11 meters) bested teammate Gabriella Gerig by 0.04 meters to take home the title. Joining the duo in the top-three placings was Alison Rayment, who hit the sand at 4.86m.
  • Emma Mills crossed the finish line first in the 100 hurdles, stopping the clock at 15.54 seconds. Samantha Czaplicki was second with her time of 16.80.
  • In the javelin, Maggie Kim launched the implement 34.62m. Her fourth attempt was 0.36 meters further than runner-up Carli Knapp of SUNY Potsdam.
  • Middlebury secured eight of the top-10 spots in the 1,500. Claire Palmer led the way with a time of 4:34.95, while teammates Naomi Atwood (4:43.25) and Grace Kaelber (4:46.06) finished second and third, respectively. Caroline VanSchaick claimed fourth at 4:52.29 and Janie Morganroth earned fifth with her time of 4:55.92. 
  • Pollitt added her second victory in the triple jump, recording a leap of 11.52m on her fifth attempt. Gerig (11.13m) was second, while Czaplicki (10.74m) grabbed third.
  • The Panthers swept the top-three spots in the 100 dash. Lawrence crossed the line with a golden time of 12.23 seconds. Bruno was nearly four-tenths of a second behind for runner-up honors, while Annabel Cloney nabbed third at 13.04.
  • Pacing four Middlebury competitors in the pole vault was Claire Miller, who cleared 3.10m to secure first. Helen Moak claimed second with her height of 2.95m. Anna Kester and Colleen Halliday were third and fourth after reaching a height of 2.80m.
  • Rayment claimed the 400 title with her time of 58.29 seconds. Lily Bulczynski clocked a 58.48 effort for second and Annelise Jensen (1:00.78) was fourth.
  • In the high jump, Lily Haskins-Vaughan cleared 1.62m for the top spot, while teammate Chase Hoey was second with her performance of 1.52m.
  • Lilly Wurtz secured a pair of triumphs in the field events. The Panther led the field in the hammer throw, placing first on her heave of 44.58m. Julia Tulimieri (43.86m) and Kim (39.09m) claimed silver and bronze, while Lauren Sheffield recorded a toss of 36.51m for fifth. 
  • Wurtz's second victory came in the discus, as she threw the implement 40.39m. Kim earned third with her performance of 36.34m. Sheffield (33.82m) and Alanna Saunders (33.18m) were separated by less than a meter in fourth and fifth.
  • In the longest event of the meet, Lulu Baker paced the Panthers to a sweep of gold, silver and bronze. The Panther clocked a time of 18:53.72, with teammates Amelia Gray (19:07.99) and Jules Davis (19.49.36) securing second and third.
  • Middlebury grabbed three of the top-five placings in the 400 hurdles. Anna Mazur paced the field with her time of 1:04.62. Lauren Tracey was four seconds behind to earn third, while Cate Kreutzen (1:13.15) collected fifth.
  • Closing out the Panther individual victories was Tulimieri, who tallied a toss of 12.41m in the shot put. Wurtz and Lawrence followed closely behind with their performances of 12.13m and 11.99m, respectively.
  • In the 800, MK Cestaro earned second with a clocking of 2:20.90. Finishing third through fifth were Naomi Gomel (2:22.48), Shea Fajen (2:23.40) and Sofia Mulada (2:24.74).
  • Tallying top-five finishes during the 200 were Ella Pate (second - 26.28), Ellie McDonald (third - 27.08) and Cloney (fourth - 27.45).
  • Middlebury closed the meet with second and third-place finishes during the 4x400 relay. Gomel, Cestaro, Fajen and Atwood combined for a time of 4:14.52, while Morganroth, Lucca Franz, Josie Dolan and Victoria Fawcett had a 4:29.03.

NOTES

  • Before the meet, the program honored seniors Bruno, Bulczynski, Cloney, Brooke Dolan, Mary Elliot, Fawcett, Franz, Kester, Kreutzen, Lawrence, Miller, Morganroth, Cassie Pfitzenmayer, Pollitt, Emily Rubio, Tulimieri, White and Wurtz.
  • Bruno, Hurley, White and Lawrence bested the previous mark of 47.63 seconds set at the 2024 NESCAC Championships.
  • The 4x100 record also reset the facility record of 47.76 seconds set by White, Michelle Louie, Eva Kaiden and Cady Barns in 2023.

Middlebury travels to Massachusetts for the two-day NESCAC Championships beginning Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
