The #12 Middlebury women's tennis team earned its fourth-consecutive triumph on Saturday, earning a 5-2 triumph over #19 Amherst on the Outdoor Tennis Courts.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Ren Barton and Diya Pachamuthu breezed by Sophie Diop and Greta Stechschulte in the third paired match.
- Lily Dounchis and Cody Huang leveled partnered play with a 6-4 decision in the first flight.
- In the second slot, Lulu Wu and Ananya Annapantula outlasted Tina She and Karolina Dobiecka for a 6-4 win and secured the doubles point.
- The Mammoths parried with victories in the #3 and #2 singles flights by Huang and Diop, respectively.
- Elizabeth Doak tied the tilt at 2-2 with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 triumph over Maddie Swire in the sixth position. Barton followed with a three-set victory against Greta Stechschulte, picking up key wins in the first (6-2) and third (6-3) frames at #4.
- Elsie Van Wieren clinched the match with a marathon victory in the top spot. After dropping the opener to She by a 6-4 tally, the Panther bounced back with 6-4 and 7-5 sets to secure the team decision.
- In the fifth position, Charlotte McCann defeated Rachel Roth by scores of 7-5, 3-6 and 6-4.
NOTES
- Middlebury has claimed 16 of its last 17 meetings against Amherst.
The Panthers host Hamilton tomorrow in the squad's final home match of the regular-season slate. Before Sunday's bout, the program will honor the contributions of its three seniors.
