Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Top-Ranked Panthers Glide Past Hamilton

Leading 3-2 entering the second quarter, the top-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team tallied five unanswered goals before cruising to a 17-3 decision over Hamilton on Wednesday from Peter Kohn Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Continentals got on the board first with 2:39 expired. Julia Lee cut to the edge of the crease and deposited her shot into the right panel.
  • The Panthers answered about eight minutes later. Parker Hanson passed on a free-position attempt and flipped it to a darting Maeve Lee. The attacker did the rest, finding the left side of the net.
  • With 3:37 left in the session, Sophia Wright cut right and fired a free-position attempt down the center, restoring a 2-1 lead for the visitors.
  • Caroline Adams and Haley Hamilton capitalized on a non-releasable infraction, combining for consecutive player-up tallies to build a 3-2 lead after the first frame.
  • Sophia Lee provided an impact early in the second quarter. The attacker drove into the teeth of the Hamilton defense and rustled the left panel at the 4:59 mark before tallying a free-position goal roughly a minute later to make it 5-2.
  • Adams (1:57) and Libby Schiffman (0:08) maintained the Middlebury momentum with goals separated by 59 seconds to craft a 7-2 advantage.
  • The Panthers logged the final tally of the half with seven-tenths of a second remaining. Haley Hamilton claimed the draw control and hustled into the offensive zone. Skylar Lach cut into the center and caught the ball on the run before depositing it into the right panel for a six-goal lead.
  • Parker Hanson broke the second-half seal with a jumping bid that sailed into the center of the net just 42 ticks in (9-2).
  • Grace MacLean stopped the scoreless streak for the visitors about a minute later, sneaking into the middle of the defensive zone and finding the left panel to trim the margin to six.
  • Middlebury kept its foot on the pedal to close the frame, finding the back of the net five more times for a 14-3 lead heading into the fourth. Maeve Lee and Sophia Lee combined for four of the five tallies.
  • Britt Nawrocki (6:38), Sofia Collins (5:10) and Sophia Lee (1:59) wrapped up the scoring in the fourth quarter as the Panthers claimed the 17-3 victory.
