#18 Men’s Tennis Competes Against #2 Tufts

The 18th-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision on Sunday against #2 Tufts at the Outdoor Tennis Courts.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Jumbo pairing of Sacha Maes and Alex Ganchev claimed a 6-2 win in the top doubles slot before Andrej Djokic and Kaeten Mehta clinched the point with a narrow 6-4 decision at #2 against Julian Wu and Noah Lewis.
  • In the third flight, the Panther duo of Hugh Hentschel and Andrew Yim battled to a tiebreaker. Javier Gonzalez and Stavros Mastrogamvrakis earned seven of the 10 points in the decisive session for a 7-6 (3) win.
  • Mehta (6-0, 6-1) and Eren Cheung (6-1, 6-1) earned victories in the fifth and sixth positions, respectively, to build a 3-0 edge.
  • Maes secured the match-clinching point at #4, posting a 6-2, 6-3 triumph. Ganchev extended the lead to five with 6-1 and 6-4 set scores in the second spot.
  • Thehan Wijemanne battled Garv Bahl in a tightly-contested showdown during the #3 flight, before the Jumbo made it 6-0 by tallies of 6-4 and 7-5.
  • The final match went the distance in the top slot. Wu took the opening set 7-5, but Gonzalez leveled the match with a 6-3 effort in the second. In the superbreaker, Gonzalez posted a 10-7 win for the 7-0 final.
NOTES
  • The programs squared off for the 40th matchup, with the Panthers holding a 23-17 advantage in the all-time series.
Middlebury returns to competition on Saturday when it travels to #20 Amherst for a 12:00 p.m. first serve.
