#10 Middlebury Wraps Weekend With 5-2 Win at #24 Wesleyan

The #10 Middlebury men's tennis team concluded its opening NESCAC weekend with a 5-2 victory over #24 Wesleyan. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Both sides battled for the first point in doubles action. The pair of Thehan Wijemanne and Reif Larsen earned a 6-4 triumph in the second slot before Wesleyan's Brett Keeling & Max Litton returned the favor with the same score at #2. 
  • The Cardinal duo of Harry Collomb and Chase Burke secured a 7-6 (7-3) win at the number one slot to push the hosts ahead 1-0 entering the singles portion.
  • Julian Wu knotted the contest with a 6-1, 6-2 decision at #1 before Anand Sahasrabudhe tallied a straight-set win (6-4, 6-3) in the sixth position to make it 2-1.
  • Max Litton earned a 6-4, 6-4 result in the fourth spot to tie the match at two.
  • Noah Lewis pushed the Panthers ahead for good with his straight-set decision (6-4, 6-4) over Ryuto Saito at #2. Wijemanne clinched the match by the same result in the third slot.
  • In the longest match of the contest, Hugh Hentschel and Brett Keeling squared offat #5. The sides split the first two sets before Hentschel earned a 10-4 triumph in the decisive third for the 5-2 final.

NOTES

  • Wu became the first Panther to hit double-digit wins and upped his unbeaten streak to six consecutive victories.
  • Wesleyan and Middlebury met for the 35th time, with the Panthers extending their winning streak over the Cardinals to seven in a row.

The Panthers continue their 10-match road trip at Bates on Saturday, March 14. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
