Knotted at 2-2, the #10 Middlebury men's tennis team claimed the final three matches of the affair to earn a 5-2 victory over Bates on Saturday.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Panthers secured the doubles point with victories at #1 and #3. Noah Lewis and Julian Wu posted a 6-2 win over Phillippe Kosyagin and Theo Sardain in the top match, while Andrew Yim and Hugh Hentschel secured a 6-3 triumph against Nicolas Ozer and James Sacco in the third position.
- Hentschel wasted no time after the doubles win, nabbing the first singles point via matching 6-2 scores at #5.
- The Bobcats rallied, securing the next two points in the second and fourth slots to tie the match at 2-2.
- Wu swung the pendulum back to Middlebury in the top singles bout. The Panther claimed a 6-2 opener before dropping the second set by the same score. He outlasted Kosyagin in the decisive third (7-5) to give the navy and white a 3-2 edge.
- Thehan Wijemanne clinched the match in the #3 battle with Sardain. After winning the first frame 6-4, he shook off a second-game loss to win 6-1 in the third.
- Anand Sahasrabudhe capped the match with a three-set victory in the sixth slot, winning the first (6-3) and third (6-2) sets against James Sacco.
NOTES
- Middlebury holds a 34-5 advantage with a 26-match winning streak in the all-time series against Bates.
