#10 Men’s Tennis Logs 7-0 Triumphs Over Chapman & Linfield in California

The 10th-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team commenced its stint in California in strong form on Sunday, logging 7-0 sweeps of Chapman and Linfield.

HIGHLIGHTS VS. CHAPMAN
  • The pair of Reif Larsen and Thehan Wijemanne opened the match with a 6-1 win over Ian Jordan and James Krantz in the second doubles tilt. The hosts parried as Aram Izmirian and Ben Jorgensen won by the same score in the #1 match.
  • Hugh Hentschel and Andrew Yim secured the doubles point with a hard-fought 6-4 victory over Mitchell Perez and Matt Dewey in the third clash.
  • The visitors swept the points during singles play. Julian Wu led off the action with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Izmirian at #1 before Wijemanne shook off Jordan by a 6-4, 6-3 line in the third position.
  • Noah Lewis clinched the match in the #2 battle, earning a 6-4 win in the first set before blanking Dewey 6-0 in the second. Larsen outlasted Jorgensen in a long second frame, claiming a 7-1 tiebreaker to push the lead to 5-0 from the fourth spot (6-2, 7-6).
  • Hentschel (6-4, 6-1) and Anand Sahasrabudhe (7-5, 6-3) concluded the affair with triumphs at #5 and #6, respectively.
HIGHLIGHTS VS. LINFIELD
  • The Panthers wasted no time jumping in front, claiming consecutive doubles decisions to nab the initial point. Nikky Kondamuri and Nathan Hernandez cruised to a 6-1 win over Joey Henderson and Cameron Paulsen in the second spot, before Justin Zhou and Nathan Jackson logged a 6-2 win over Alexander Rosenquist and Gavin Orozco.
  • Brooks Lerfald and Zac Nakajima picked up the lone Wildcat win in the #1 doubles match (6-4).
  • Sidney Huet breezed through his battle with Orozco in the sixth singles slot (6-0, 6-1) before Lewis prevailed at #1 (6-4, 6-1). Jackson clinched Middlebury's sixth win of the campaign with a 6-4, 6-1 tally against Henderson in the fourth position.
  • Yim followed with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Paulsen at #3 before Kondamuri grinded out a win over Rosenquist in the longest match of the day. The Panther opened the tilt with a 6-2 decision before dropping the second set, 6-4. Kondamuri outlasted his foe in the third-set tiebreak, 7-4, to grab the fifth-slot match.
  • Larsen finalized the sweep with a well-earned win over Nakajima at #2 (6-4, 7-5).
NOTES
  • Larsen enjoyed a 3-0 day between singles and doubles and eclipsed the 20-win threshold for his career in singles play.
  • Middlebury improved to 8-0 in the all-time series against Chapman.
  • The Panthers and Wildcats squared off for the first time in men's tennis.
