Quick Start Propels #10 Middlebury to 7-0 Decision Over Whittier

The #10 Middlebury men's tennis team swept Monday's doubles action and never looked back in a 7-0 decision against Whittier in California.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers came out of the gates strong, securing the doubles point. Nathan Hernandez and Nikky Kondamuri tallied a 6-2 decision over Tyler Perez and Suraj Somaskandan in the third slot. The pair of Reif Larsen and Thehan Wijemanne clinched the point via a 6-3 triumph at #2. 
  • In the top flight, Noah Lewis and Julian Wu closed out the action with a 6-2 result against the duo of Aravind Binoj and Sam Neijenhuizen.
  • Justin Zhou commenced singles posting a straight-set result (6-2, 6-0) over Richard Tellez in the sixth position, before Andrew Yim followed suit in his 6-1, 6-3 win against Aravind Binoj at #2 for a 3-0 lead.
  • Hernandez clinched the match for the navy and white, besting Somaskandan (6-2, 6-3) in the fifth slot.
  • At #3, Nathan Jackson grinded out a 7-5 opening-set win before cruising by a 6-1 margin in the second to secure Middlebury's fifth point.
  • Sidney Huet (6-1, 7-5) and Anand Sahasrabudhe (7-5, 6-3) completed the Panther scoring with victories in the fourth and first positions, respectively.

NOTES

  • Lewis and Wu picked up their team-leading 12th victory as a pair.
  • Jackson secured his 40th combined career win over singles and doubles.
  • The programs met for the third time.

Middlebury returns to the courts on Wednesday for a showdown at #16 Pomona-Pitzer beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET.
