Women’s Track & Field Logs Strong Weekend Efforts

Lilly Wurtz bested her prior program record in the weight throw by 1.34 meters.
The Middlebury women's track and field team put its best foot forward on Friday and Saturday, wrapping up several impressive performances at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships at The Armory in New York and the Tufts Final Qualifier in Massachusetts.
 
AARTFC HIGHLIGHTS
  • Olive Lawrence opened Friday's action by erasing her own program record in the 60-meter prelims, breaking the line in 7.70 seconds. She earned fifth place in the final with a time of 7.77 seconds.
  • MK Cestaro earned fourth in the 3,000 with a personal-best effort of 10:07.79.
  • Lily Haskins-Vaughan cleared the bar at 1.67m in the high jump, establishing a career mark and placing fourth in the event.
  • The 4x200 relay quartet of Jazmyn Hurley, Melissa White, Katie Bruno and Lawrence claimed runner-up honors, stopping the clock in 1:44.19.
TUFTS FINAL QUALIFIER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Lilly Wurtz dwarfed her own school record in the weight throw, logging a final heave of 16.81 meters to finish second in the event. She also claimed the runner-up spot in the shot put with a second toss of 12.65m.
  • Annelise Jensen, Lily Bulczynski, Naomi Atwood and Claire Palmer combined to finish third in the distance medley relay (DMR), posting a time of 11:46.09.
NOTES
  • In the weight throw, Wurtz tacked an additional 1.34 meters onto the program record she established at the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
  • Lawrence's prelim clocking in the 60 lowered her school mark by two-hundredths of a second.
Selections for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships will be announced on NCAA.com on Sunday, March 8 in the evening. This year's national invite will take place on March 13-14 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
