#6 Women’s Tennis Downs Bates

The #6 Middlebury women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 triumph on Saturday over Bates in the first home match of the campaign for the Panthers.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The navy and white immediately snagged the doubles point. Charlotte McCann and Diya Pachamuthu tallied a 6-0 decision in the third slot before Anna Lardner and Elsie Van Wieren followed suit at #2 to jump ahead 1-0.
  • Lulu Wu and Ren Barton closed doubles action with a 6-2 result over the Bobcat duo of Iris Westmoreland & Emelyn Harris in the top spot.
  • Van Wieren opened singles action strong, securing a 6-0, 6-2 victory at #1 to make it a 2-0 score.
  • McCann (6-0, 6-0) and Barton (6-1, 6-1) followed with straight-set decisions in the fifth and fourth slots, respectively, to secure the match for the Panthers.
  • At #2, Lardner cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Isabella Saul to give the hosts a 5-0 edge.
  • Wu and Elizabeth Doak closed the battle with straight-set triumphs in the third and sixth positions to seal the 7-0 triumph.

NOTES

  • Wu tallied her 55th doubles win as a Panther.
  • Doak surpassed 15 victories as an individual.
  • The programs met for the 37th time, with Middlebury winning 35 of the matchups and extending its winning streak over the Bobcats to 22.

The Panthers ship out to California for their annual spring break trip, kicking off with a doubleheader on Monday, March 23 against Chapman (1:00 p.m. ET) and Concordia University Irvine (6:30 p.m. ET).
