Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s Hockey Glides Past Connecticut College

The Middlebury men's ice hockey team excelled on the ice Saturday, skating to a 4-0 road victory over Connecticut College.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers grabbed the lead with 2:04 elapsed. Jackson Morehouse launched a shot from the left faceoff dot that deflected off the pad of Camels' goalie Will McEvoy. Dante Palombo won the race to the loose puck in the crease and tapped it in for a 1-0 edge.
  • Michael Stenberg looked for the equalizer 27 ticks later with a snipe between the faceoff circles. Middlebury netminder Andrew Heinze slid to his left and made the stop.
  • Connecticut College nearly knotted the contest with an extra skater at the 8:54 mark. Pete Stanger fired a bid in traffic that Heinze denied with his right pad. The puck hovered near the right post, but Will Lawrence pushed his rebound attempt wide.
  • The Panthers cashed in on the power play with 8:28 left in the first. Silverman delivered a crisp cross-ice pass to a darting Luc Malkhassian. The rookie did the rest, tucking his shot inside the left post to push it to a two-goal advantage.
  • With 3:42 remaining, Jimmy Lyver launched a riser from the top of the Middlebury defensive zone. Heinze read the bid and snagged it out of the air with his glove.
  • The visitors extended their lead at the 1:16 mark of the second stanza. Edward Moskowitz parked himself on the right post and directed a cross-crease pass from Malkhassian into the right side of the net.
  • The Camels generated a two-on-one opportunity with 8:51 elapsed. Ryan McKenna tried to muscle a shot past Heinze, who slid to the right and smothered the bid.
  • Middlebury nearly tallied its fourth goal on the power play about four minutes later. Reece Brednich smashed a point-blank bid with a defender on his left hip. McEvoy stood tall and covered the shot with his glove.
  • Connecticut College pushed the envelope with 24 ticks left in the period. Steven Ardagna ripped a bid between the circles that looked destined for the left side of the net. Heinze tracked the shot and rejected it with his pad.
  • The hosts earned a power-play opportunity just six seconds into the final stanza. Their only shot on target came at the 2:06 mark, as Logan Cleary's snipe from the left circle was smothered by Heinze.
  • The Panthers added their fourth goal with 5:58 expired. Malkhassian raced up the ice and flipped a cross-ice pass to a trailing Tyler Wishart for a backhand bid that snuck past McEvoy.
  • Connecticut College continued to knock on the door. Max Treppo smacked back-to-back doorstep chances at the 9:28 mark that Heinze brushed away.
  • The Middlebury defense locked down the Camels' offense the rest of the way, allowing just one shot on target over the final 10:32 to seal the triumph.
