Women’s Track & Field Excels in Indoor Season Lidlifter

Ella Pate won the 500 for the Panthers.

The Middlebury women's track and field team earned 10 event victories at its annual Snowflake Invitational.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Emily Rubio paced the Panthers, outleaping the field in the long jump (5.24 meters) and grabbing the 60-meter hurdles title with a time of 9.37 seconds.
  • Rubio closed out her career day by securing first in the high jump at 1.58m on her initial attempt. Lily Haskins-Vaughan and Chase Hoey earned a share of second after hitting the mark on their third chance.
  • Middlebury's success carried over to the field events. Julia Tulimieri secured the top spot in the weight throw via a heave of 14.67 meters, while Lilly Wurtz (14.60m) and Margaret Kim (13.26m) closed out the Panther sweep.
  • The Panthers excelled in the pole vault. Claire Miller was the top finisher after clearing 2.95m. Anna Kester and Colleen Halliday placed second and third with their performances of 2.80m and 2.65m.
  • Cate Kreutzen opened the meet with a victory in the mile, stopping the clock at 5:26.89. 
  • Olive Lawrence excelled in the meet's fastest event, clocking the pinnacle time of 7.80 seconds in the 60m dash, while Ella Pate crossed the finish line first in the 500 (1:20.50).
  • Middlebury's ninth victory came during the triple jump. Alison Rayment recorded a leap of 10.37m on her final attempt to win the crown.
  • The final Panther triumph came in the shot put. Wurtz recorded a school record toss of 12.63m on her third attempt to claim the top spot, while Tulimieri tallied third (12.02m).
  • Katie Bruno claimed runner-up honors (26.53) during the 200, followed by Jazmyn Hurley (26.58) in third. 
  • Bruno also earned a podium spot in the 60m by crossing the finish line in 7.97 seconds.

NOTES

  • Wurtz's shot put effort broke the previous mark of 12.47m set by Helene Rowland in 2017.
  • Lawrence bested Cady Barns 60m record set in 2023 by nine-hundredths of a second.
  • Tulimieri's effort in the weight throw surpassed her previous career high by nearly a meter.

Middlebury returns to the Virtue Field House to host its annual Winter Classic. The action begins on Friday at 2:00 p.m., followed by the second day of competition at 9:00 a.m. Saturday.
