Third-Period Rush Lifts #4 Women’s Hockey Past Connecticut College

Trailing 1-0 with under 16 minutes remaining, the fourth-ranked Middlebury women's hockey team stormed back with a pair of goals to nab a 2-1 win over Connecticut College on Friday evening from Chip Kenyon '85 Arena.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Camels eyed the opening tally with 6:07 expired in the first period. Bridget McGann readied a one-timer from the left side of the crease. Panther goalie Sophia Will sprawled out to secure the save.
  • Trinity Walsh nearly put the hosts ahead at the 8:08 mark of the stanza, darting between the faceoff circles and dialing up a bid that Connecticut College netminder Devon Galizio smothered.
  • Middlebury peppered Galizio with eight shots in the frame's final three minutes, including five in 10 seconds, but all eight were turned away to hold the tilt scoreless through 20 minutes.
  • Alyssa Frazier opened the second session by firing a bid from near the blue line toward the right side of the net that Galizio guided away with her glove at the 2:16 mark.
  • Ashley Engle tried to sneak a shot inside the left pipe after her side returned to full strength, but Will cut off the angle and guided the puck away with 10:53 to go.
  • Liv Fernandez nearly netted the first goal three minutes later, wristing a behind-goal feed from Alison Giebler. Galizio read the bid and made the stop.
  • The Camels moved in front with 3:27 showing on the second-period clock. Engle sent the puck to Bonner on the blue line, who skated around a Middlebury defender and buried a top-shelf look to establish the 1-0 lead.
  • The hosts needed just 4:04 of the third period to tie the game. Frazier corralled a shot from Olivia Gordon and tapped it to Liv Fernandez, who tucked her attempt past Galizio.
  • Middlebury grabbed the lead while down a skater with 7:09 remaining. Giebler disrupted a Camel pass and dashed down the ice before faking right and depositing the puck into the net for a 2-1 edge
  • Each goalie made a pair of saves down the stretch as the hosts hung on to secure the 2-1 triumph.
NOTES
  • Giebler's game-winning goal was her first in the navy and white.
  • The programs played for the 57th time. Middlebury holds a 47-6-4 advantage over Connecticut College in the all-time series.
