#4 Women’s Hockey Skates to 4-2 Victory Over Camels

The #4 Middlebury women's ice hockey team tallied two goals in a five-minute spurt during Saturday's third period to seal a 4-2 victory over Connecticut College.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Camels looked to get on the board with 2:29 elapsed. Maya Lileika fired a shot toward the right post that Middlebury goalie Sophia Will steered aside with her blocker.
  • Just 1:10 later, Caroline Thomas crafted a golden opportunity via a backhand shot in front of the crease off a crisp pass from Avery McInerny. Devon Galizio stood her ground and stonewalled the point-blank chance.
  • The visitors grabbed a 1-0 edge with 8:16 remaining in the first period. Ashley Engle hustled into the zone and ricocheted her shot off the left pipe and into the right side of the net.
  • Middlebury had consecutive chances less than two minutes later. Susannah Ward rifled a bid that bounced off Galizio's pads and in front of the crease. Sarah Anthony collected the loose puck and slapped a rebound chance, but Galizio stood her ground for the stop.
  • The Panthers nearly tied the game with 7:07 expired in the second stanza. Olivia McManus pushed a shot from the point toward the left side of the net. Galizio nearly got twisted up but made the snag with her glove.
  • Connecticut College nearly doubled its lead at the 4:10 mark with an extra skater. Engle worked the puck inside the Panther zone and had a backhand bid in front of the crease denied by Will.
  • Middlebury's pressure paid dividends with 43 ticks left in the stanza. McInerny flipped a pass from behind the net to a darting Frazier for a one-timer that sailed into the left side of the net, knotting the contest at 1-1.
  • The Panthers took a 2-1 lead 17 seconds later. Alison Giebler lifted a shot that snuck underneath the crossbar off a feed by Peyton Kennedy.
  • Pistorino tied the contest at 2-2 just 1:46 into the third period. She collected the puck at center ice and made a nifty move around a defender before tucking it inside the left post.
  • The visitors created a dangerous two-on-one chance with 10:42 to go. Pistorino lifted a bid that looked destined for the goal, but Will gloved the shot to keep the tie.
  • Middlebury regained a 3-2 advantage on the power play with 7:27 on the clock. Frazier passed the puck back to the Camels' blue line to McManus. The defender wound up and fired a bid into traffic that sailed past Galizio and into the left side of the net.
  • The hosts added an insurance tally while down a skater at the 2:30 mark. Frazier picked off a Camel pass and skated down the left side of the ice, creating a two-on-one opportunity with Caroline Thomas. The rookie found her classmate at the right time with a cross-ice pass that Thomas backhanded into the net to make it 4-2.
  • Connecticut College pulled Galizio for an extra skater with 1:40 to go, but the visitors were caught with too many players on the ice, allowing the Panthers to tick down the final 52 seconds and earn the weekend sweep.
