The Middlebury women's soccer team rolled on Sunday to a 5-0 victory over Vermont State University Castleton in the squad's home opener.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers forced Spartan goalkeeper Emma Ezzo into action early with six shots on goal in the opening 18:52 of the match, but Ezzo turned away all six tries to maintain the scoreless tie.
  • Gigi Day received a chance from the penalty spot in the 20th minute, tucking her try neatly into the bottom-left corner to give Middlebury a 1-0 edge.
  • Kacy Walker nearly struck from distance with 34:21 expired for the Panthers, firing from 20 yards and clipping the top of the crossbar.
  • Middlebury finished the half strong with two goals in 92 seconds. The first came when Olivia Colby headed a feed from Stella Espinasse into the onion bag. With 12 seconds to play in the session, Taya McClennen scored off a give-and-go with Colby to widen the lead to three (3-0) at the break.
  • Julie Cooper came into the contest between the pipes for Castleton in the second half, beginning her stay with a pair of stops in the opening 15:19 of the frame.
  • Sarah Hall provided another surge in the Panther attack, scoring her first two career goals in 6:56 of play. Lauren Tracey served a pinpoint cross into the box and Hall darted in to head the ball into the top-right corner for the fourth Panther tally. She followed by creating her own chance from the top of the box and depositing her try into the top-left corner with 10:06 remaining for the final 5-0 result.
