Feldman’s Second Half Winner Seals 1-0 Victory For Women’s Soccer Over Hamilton

Mia Feldman tallied the lone goal in the 79th minute to propel the Middlebury women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Hamilton on Saturday. The program has now won three straight NESCAC openers.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Hamilton created a good chance with 6:46 elapsed. Abby Douglass sent in a pass from just outside the goalie box. Isabel Harvey got her head on the ball, but Frankie Marston snagged the attempt.
  • The Panthers manufactured their first opportunity at the 9:50 mark. Taya McClennen snagged a through ball by Chloe Swindle and sailed a bid just left of the post.
  • Harvey tried her luck again in the 21st minute with another header off a feed from Douglass. Marston read the ball the entire way and scooped up the save.
  • With 52:45 elapsed, Stella Espinasse settled a bouncing ball and delivered a pass to the top left of the goal box. Mari Rode put her right foot on it and sent a shot towards the right post that Nieve Tonna smothered.
  • Espinasse aimed from just outside the penalty box at the bottom left corner at 56:18. Tonna shifted to the left and brought the ball to her chest to keep the Panthers off the board.
  • Middlebury threatened again with 15:57 remaining. Swindle launched a chance from 20 yards out that sailed over the crossbar.
  • The visitors grabbed the lead with just over 12 minutes remaining. Olivia Colby worked the ball into the box and lifted a shot that Tonna deflected to the right. Feldman won the race and kicked the loose ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage.
  • Hamilton could not manufacture a chance over the remaining 11:46, giving the Panthers their second shutout of the season.

NOTES

  • Feldman tallied her initial goal of the season, while Colby secured her third helper.
  • Livia Davidson and Marston stopped three Continental shots on goal to secure the clean sheet.
