#7 Middlebury Drops 1-0 Decision to Wesleyan

The #7 Middlebury men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Wesleyan on Sunday at South Street Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers created the first chance with 7:16 elapsed. Eduardo Casanova created a give-and-go with Colin Dugan on the right side of the box. Casanova struck a bid low right that Wesleyan goalie Mathis Blanc smothered.
  • Joshwin Jennings fired the Cardinals' initial shot in the 18th minute from 30 yards out that sailed wide left.
  • Middlebury had the final shot at the 23:10 mark of the first half. Keagan Harder threw the ball towards the box, which glanced off the head of Casanova and toward the right post. Colin Dugan tried to punch the ball in with his forehead, but Blanc made a split-second palm save.
  • Wesleyan broke the scoreless tie in the 49th minute. Yousuf Saeed blasted a shot from just outside the goal box that was deflected back to the center. Aiden Londergan sprinted to the ball and snuck a shot into the lower left corner of the net to put the Cardinals ahead 1-0.
  • John SennMcNally nearly added to the Cardinal lead less than four minutes later on a point-blank shot that deflected off Panther goalie Leon Brody and out of play.
  • Middlebury turned up the pressure with 60:13 elapsed. An unsettled ball bounced off the head of Orlando Cavaceppi-Dove and towards a sea of players. Charlie Johnson flicked an on-target bid that Blanc dove and grabbed with two hands for the save.
  • Will Sawin tallied a point-blank shot with 9:48 remaining that Blanc steered aside.
  • The Panthers had a chance in the 88th minute. Casanova settled a loose ball on the edge of the box and fired a riser that was blocked aside by a Cardinal defender.
  • Middlebury looked for one last opportunity during the final minute, but Wesleyan kept the Panther offense at bay to earn the win.

NOTES

  • Middlebury and Wesleyan met for the 47th time.

The Panthers continue their three-game homestand against Bowdoin on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The program will honor its seniors before the contest.
