#10 Women’s Soccer Outduels Connecticut College 1-0

The #10 Middlebury women's soccer team scored in the 76th minute to break a scoreless deadlock and earn a 1-0 victory at Connecticut College on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Carolina Espinosa created a Panther opportunity in the fifth minute, winning a race to the ball and taking aim at the lower-left corner. Connecticut College goalie Maia Kafer launched off her line to deny the chance.
  • Middlebury tallied another bid with 7:37 elapsed. Espinosa delivered a crisp pass with the left foot through traffic to Taya McClennen, who dribbled into the box and tested the center of the goal. Kafer dropped and made her second save of the match.
  • The Camels tested Panther goalie Frankie Marston with 32:32 remaining in the opening stanza. Ella Gazo found herself unmarked from 25 yards away and wound up a strike to the top-right corner that Marston snagged.
  • Mia Feldman added a bid in the 18th minute, getting by her defender and launching a shot that sailed just above the crossbar.
  • Olivia Colby nearly nudged Middlebury ahead with 23:19 expired in the session. After winning the ball and racing down the left sideline, Kacy Walker sent in a cross that Kafer deflected. Colby's one-time attempt off the bounce aired just left of the woodwork.
  • Claire Chace logged a bid at the 57:20 mark, finding space down the left wing before cutting back inside and sending a shot that sailed right of the post.
  • Panthers goalie Livia Davidson was tested in the 58th minute after entering at halftime. Blessing Kieh took a give-and-go with Gazo down the center of the field before firing towards the right side, where Davidson stood to make the stop.
  • Connecticut College's Paige Maffei sent a long-range look towards the goal with 71:08 expired. Davidson read the shot to her right and rose to secure the save.
  • Middlebury broke through with 14:32 to play. Walker won possession on the left wing and crossed to Fiona Linnau at the top of the box. Linnau laced her attempt to the lower-right corner, which bounced just beyond Kafer's fingertips and into the net to put the Panthers ahead, 1-0.
  • Middlebury had a chance to add to its advantage in the 87th minute, but a try for the top-left corner by Sarah Hall was denied by Kafer for her seventh save of the match.
NOTES
  • Linnau's game-winning marker was her first goal as a Panther.
  • Davidson and Marston combined for the team's sixth shutout of the season.
  • The programs played for the 28th time with Middlebury holding an 18-7-3 edge in the all-time series. The Panthers have won four of the last five matchups against the Camels.
Middlebury wraps the weekend by hosting #21 Wesleyan on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. from the Allan Dragone Track and Field Complex.
