#7 Men’s Soccer Falls to Connecticut College

The seventh-ranked Middlebury men's soccer team fell 1-0 at Connecticut College on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers had the first bid with 4:18 elapsed. Antonio Cosentino collected a give-and-go from Hamin Kim and fired a shot through traffic. Connecticut College goalie TJ Krongard read the shot and smothered the chance.
  • Middlebury continued the pressure in the 16th minute. Will Sawin raced down the right sideline before cutting to the middle of the box and passing to Keagan Harder. The forward used his right foot for a shot towards the bottom right corner that was gloved by Krongard.
  • At the 26:03 mark, Marco Perugini collected the ball and fired a bid from about 25 yards out that sailed wide left.
  • With 8:05 to go in the first half, Gavin Randolph fought for possession and hustled down the field. A quick pass to Harper Nichol deflected out to Hugo Horwitz on the goal box line, who shifted possession to Sawin. The Panther struck a shot towards the bottom right corner that Krongard got a hand on to deny.
  • The Camels had the final chance of the first half in the 40th minute. Shinya Frank sent a bid from 18 yards out that was blocked by the right foot of Dylan Payne and jumped on by Panther goalie Leon Brody.
  • Just 1:55 into the second session, Cosentino had a chance via a lower left shot, but a Camels defender blocked it out of play.
  • Connecticut College threatened off a throw-in during the 54th minute. The ball was deflected towards the center of the penalty box. Henry Lester sprinted in and blasted a strike that was blocked by a jumping Orlando Cavaceppi-Dove
  • With 19:56 remaining, Frank wound up and fired a riser that deflected off Brody's fingertips and the upper section of the crossbar.
  • Randolph had a great chance for the visitors at the 79:34 mark with a strike via his left foot. Krongard dove right and covered the ball to keep the Panthers off the board.
  • The Camels grabbed the lead in the 86th minute off a corner kick. Brody punched the corner away, but an unsettled ball bounced off the chest and foot of Gavin Mpiana and into the lower right corner for the 1-0 lead.
  • Middlebury looked for the equalizer late but could not get a shot on target as Connecticut College secured the 1-0 victory.
