#10 Women’s Soccer Splits Points With #22 Amherst

The #10 Middlebury women's soccer team dueled #22 Amherst to a scoreless draw on Saturday at the Allan Dragone Track and Field Complex. The match was the first of five consecutive NESCAC matchups for the Panthers.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Mammoths looked to capitalize in the ninth minute. Sophia Haynes nudged the ball out to the top of the box and Brooke Ingemi delivered a shot towards the lower left corner, but goalie Livia Davidson dropped to her right and gloved the ball for her first save.
  • Haynes had a look of her own with 16:03 expired, guiding a bid to the center of the goal box that Davidson smothered.
  • Amherst created a strong chance with 13:45 left in the first half. Mekhala Costello delivered a free kick to the outer edge of the box toward Jessica Lomo, who took two steps and sent a rocket that Davidson palmed away.
  • Mia Feldman nearly scored from 10 yards out in the 43rd minute, directing the ball to the upper-right corner before Amherst goalie Lulu Fickes deflected the ball with her left mitt off the crossbar and out of bounds.
  • Davidson was challenged just 1:17 into the second stanza, diving to her right to stop a bid from Costello headed for the left corner of the goal.
  • The 55th minute yielded another chance for the Mammoths. Becca Button dribbled into the box from the left side and fired a rocket to the top left corner. Davidson wound up and punched the ball over the crossbar to keep the match scoreless.
  • Gigi Day had a chance off a corner kick with 20:05 remaining, sending an attempt high that bounced off the crossbar and out of play.
  • Middlebury's final chance came with 88:42 expired. Carolina Espinosa broke up the field and took a shot from 25 yards out that went wide of the right post.
NOTES
  • Davidson tallied a career-high eight saves and her third shutout in a Panther uniform.
  • The programs competed for the 48th time with Amherst holding a 22-15-11 lead in the all-time series.
