#8 Men’s Soccer Draws With #16 Amherst

After 90 hard-fought minutes, the eighth-ranked Middlebury men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw against 16th-ranked Amherst from South Street Field on Saturday. The teams squared off for the first time since last year's national semifinal.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The visitors had the first bid with 4:20 elapsed. Leo Wilensky settled a long ball and broke away down the middle of the field, but his attempt sailed over the crossbar.
  • Amherst got another opportunity at the 20:19 mark of the first half. Jacob Dinzeo delivered a free kick to the center of the goal box that Middlebury goalie Leon Brody stepped out to make the stop.
  • Brody made a key stop with 21:16 expired, dropping to a knee and denying a shot from Mohammed Nuhu to maintain the scoreless draw.
  • Gavin Randolph darted into the box off a corner with 18 minutes played in the second session and tapped a bid toward the bottom left corner that bounced just wide of the post.
  • Will Sawin had a look at the Mammoth goal from about 20 yards out that sailed high right in the 73rd minute.
  • Randolph almost struck again with 13:52 remaining in the match, guiding a feed from the corner towards the lower right corner. The bid narrowly avoided the right post to keep the score level.
  • The Panthers forced a save from Amherst's Trey Sheppard in the 87th minute. Colin Dugan found a racing Eduardo Casanova, who aimed for the lower corner. Sheppard dove to his right to glove the ball and seal the 0-0 final score.
NOTES
  • Leon Brody made two saves across the contest to earn his first career solo shutout.
  • The programs met for the 64th time with Middlebury owning a narrow 26-23-15 advantage in the all-time series.

The Panthers travel to face Connecticut College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
