#10 Middlebury Stays Unbeaten With 2-1 Triumph Over Union

The 10th-ranked Middlebury women's soccer team tallied a goal in each half to secure a 2-1 victory over Union (N.Y.) on Wednesday from the Allan Dragone Track and Field Complex.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Olivia Irwin-Pokorny had the first chance at the 1:12 mark of the first half on a shot from inside the penalty area that went wide left of the post.
  • The Garnet Chargers grabbed the lead with 4:57 elapsed following a throw-in. Anabelle Thomas flicked the ball to herself inside the box and fired into the bottom-left corner for a 1-0 edge.
  • At the 11:53 mark, Panther Emmy Christopher sent a shot toward the goal, but a Union defender stepped in front and deflected it away.
  • Olivia Colby put together a strong opportunity in the 29th minute with a bid from the right side. Union goalie Maya Koster came off her line and blocked the on-target strike to keep the one-goal lead.
  • Middlebury tallied the equalizer at the 34:27 mark. Stella Espinasse whipped in a corner kick from the right side. The ball bounced off a defender and toward Kacy Walker, who knocked it into the lower-left corner.
  • The Panthers took the lead during the 51st minute. Mia Feldman blitzed down the right side of the field and sent a ball toward the left post. Walker won the race to the possession and tipped it inside the net to make it 2-1.
  • Union nearly knotted the contest two minutes later via a corner kick. Vanessa Jorgensen put the ball on target, as goalie Livia Davidson punched the bid and it spun backward. Espinasse stayed on the goal line and cleared the chance away for the defensive save.
  • Middlebury continued the pressure with 18:48 left in the contest. Gigi Day collected possession and fired a riser toward the top-right corner. Koster read the ball and rose high to deflect the bid out of play.
  • The Garnet Charger offense tried to muster up a few chances late, but the Panther defense kept control and didn't allow a shot to grab the program's fifth win of the year.
