Chandler Nets Winner in Top-Ranked Field Hockey’s OT Triumph at Trinity

Addie Chandler scored 4:47 into Saturday's first overtime, propelling the #1 Middlebury field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Trinity.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • After a back-and-forth opening quarter, the Panthers found their first strong chance with 9:53 expired. Madaket Rzepka worked her way inside and put a shot on target that was turned away by the Bantams.
  • Middlebury earned its first penalty corner of the contest with just 1:30 left in the quarter. Megan Fuqua had a blast from the top of the arc denied by Bantam goalie Hayley Gable.
  • The Panthers generated three more shots in the second stanza, all of which strayed off target to maintain the scoreless tie through 30 minutes.
  • With 40:18 elapsed, Riley Harrington created a chance for Trinity, but her attempt sailed wide of the Middlebury goal.
  • Middlebury had its best opportunity in regulation via a penalty stroke with 3:14 remaining in the third frame, but the chance skipped outside the right post.
  • The Panthers turned up the pressure in the late minutes, forcing four saves from Gable in the final 16:08 of the contest, but Trinity withstood the surge to force added time.
  • Harrington took the lone Bantam try of overtime with 3:45 elapsed, but the shot was blocked by the Middlebury defense.
  • Just 62 seconds later, Claire McMichael sliced through the Trinity backline and slapped a feed across the goal mouth to Chandler, who nudged the ball in for the 1-0 triumph.
