Softball Earns Three NFCA All-Region Selections

Carroll, Scholes and Westphal tallied all-region honors.

Three members of the Middlebury softball team were named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region squads. Kristyn Carroll and Olivia Scholes earned first-team honors, while Jennifer Westphal was a third-team selection. The squad was one of 29 schools across Division III to have three honorees.

HONOREE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Carroll (First Team)
    • Carroll tallies her third-consecutive first-team all-region distinction.
    • The outfielder had a stellar campaign for the Panthers, pacing the NESCAC in batting average (.496), on-base percentage (.580) and walks (24).
    • As the leadoff hitter all season, Carroll paced the team with 61 hits, 46 runs scored and five triples over 39 contests.
    • The junior rewrote the history books. She became the program's single-season hits leader, while tallying career marks with 66 walks and 65 stolen bases.
    • Carroll has started 109 games in a Panther uniform, hitting .477 with 163 hits and 129 runs scored.
  • Scholes (First Team)
    • Scholes earns her first all-region accolade.
    • The sophomore led the team with 39 runs batted in (RBI) and 12 doubles. She was second on the team in hits (48) and one of three players to start all 39 contests.
    • Scholes earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors after tallying 10 hits in a four-game set against Bowdoin and Bates earlier this season.
    • In the field, the shortstop led the team with 95 assists.
    • The Panther has appeared in 65 career contests, recording 68 hits and 49 RBI.
  • Westphal (Third Team)
    • Westphal secures her initial all-region recognition.
    • The utility player had a career campaign, finishing second in batting average (.366) and slugging percentage (.564) and was tied with Scholes for the team lead in homers with four.
    • Her 37 hits and 25 runs batted in were career highs.
    • The Panther excelled behind the plate, tallying 82 putouts and 12 assists without committing an error.
    • Westphal has racked up 62 hits, 43 RBI and 32 walks in 90 career contests in the navy and white.
