The third-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team battled but fell 4-2 to #13 Johns Hopkins in Sunday's NCAA Regional Final from the Outdoor Tennis Courts.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Both teams fought early for the doubles point. The duo of Kamila Wong and Ava Li earned a 6-3 victory at #2 before Sahana Raman and Nina Farhat cruised to a 6-1 triumph in the top spot.
- In the third slot, Sahana Madala and Sydney Langer grinded out a 7-5 win to put the Blue Jays ahead 1-0.
- Raman knotted the match at one apiece at #1 singles with her straight-sets triumph (6-2, 6-3) over Langer.
- Johns Hopkins claimed a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the fourth spot to push the visitors ahead 2-1.
- Miller countered in the third slot, tallying a sweep (7-5, 6-4) to tie the contest at two.
- The Blue Jays rallied again with a triumph at #5 and grabbed a three-set marathon in the sixth slot to move on to the national quarterfinals.
NOTES
- Van Wieren and Sahana Sanjeev split the first two sets and were in the middle of the third when the match was called.
- Raman pushed her singles winning streak to 10-straight matches.
- The programs played for the fourth time in NCAA Tournament action.
- Middlebury finishes its season 18-3 overall and claimed the program's first-ever NESCAC title.
Farhat, Raman and Van Wieren will represent the Panthers in the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships slated to begin on Friday, May 23 in Claremont, California.
