MacLean & Rubio Break School Records As Panthers Compete At FIRE

Palmer finished in fifth in the hammer throw.
A pair of Panthers broke school records as the Middlebury women's track and field team competed at the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza (FIRE) hosted by Williams. Audrey MacLean set the program mark in the 5,000 meters, while Emily Rubio broke the school record in the heptathlon. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • MacLean crossed the finish line in second place, clocking in at 16:36.94 in the 5,000. The previous time of 16:42.19 was set by Addie Tousley in 2013. Bea Barr also competed in the event, finishing in 17:13.68 to claim sixth. 
  • Rubio earned runner-up laurels in the heptathlon with her school-record 4,576 points, eclipsing her previous mark of 4,477 set in 2023. The Panther won the long jump with a mark of 5.39 meters, while finishing as the runner-up in five other events. 
  • Macy Daggitt hit the sand with a winning mark of 11.81m in the triple jump, while Gabriella Gerig was ninth (10.88m). The duo also competed in the long jump, with Daggitt placing third (5.63m) and Gerig tying for sixth (5.32m).
  • The 4x400 relay quartet of Elle Thompson, Anna Mazur, Mary Elliot and Ella Pate finished in fourth with a time of 3:54.89.
  • Mazur also grabbed fourth place in the 400 hurdles, clocking in at 1:05.06.
  • In the 100 hurdles, Emma Mills finished in fifth with a time of 15.20 seconds.
  • Jaxon Palmer grabbed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.76m, while Julia Tulimieri was two spots back with a heave of 45.97m.
  • In the discus, Lilly Wurtz led a trio of Panthers with a seventh-place toss of 39.79m. Madeline Sauders followed in ninth (38.87m), while Maggie Kim was 12th (35.12m).
  • Tulimieri finished eighth in the shot put with a toss of 11.61m, while Wurtz was 12th (11.23m).
  • A pair of Middlebury runners competed in the 3,000 steeplechase. Stephanie Renouf crossed the line in fifth (11:31.83), while Adrienne Christy was seventh (11:46.16). 
  • Rounding out the top-15 finishers was Zoe Wang in the pole vault (11th - 3.57m), while Elliott (12th - 59.39) and Pate (13th - 59.97) participated in the 400.
NOTES
  • The 4x400 time was a season-best clocking by nearly three seconds.
The final regular-season meet for the Panthers is the MIT Qualifier on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. where select individuals will compete with a chance to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship.
