#6 Women’s Tennis Eases Past #11 Bowdoin 7-0

The sixth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team remained undefeated in NESCAC action with a 7-0 sweep of #11 Bowdoin on Saturday from the Nelson Recreation Center.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Middlebury quickly grabbed the doubles point to go up 1-0. The tandem of Claudia Miller and Elsie Van Wieren cruised to a 6-0 victory at #2, while duo Sahana Raman and Nina Farhat claimed a 6-2 win at the top spot to clinch the point.
  • Van Wieren pushed the hosts' lead to 2-0 with a straight-set sweep (6-0, 6-0) in the #2 slot to begin singles' play.
  • Lulu Wu claimed the third point of the match, earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the fourth spot.
  • Raman clinched the match with her 6-2, 7-5 decision over Caroline Stuhlfaut at #1.
  • In the third slot, Miller grabbed a three-set battle (6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5)) against Jamilah Karah to make the score 5-0.
  • Nathalie van der Reis secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory at #5 for a 6-0 lead.
  • In the final match of the day, Farhat dropped the opening set but rebounded with a 7-6 (7-1) victory to set up a superbreaker. The Panther pulled out an 11-9 decision to clinch the 7-0 score.

NOTES

  • Farhat upped her winning streak in singles to 13-consecutive matches.
  • Raman and Van Wieren each earned their team-leading 18th triumph in singles action.
  • Middlebury tallied its 10th-straight victory over the Polar Bears.

The Panthers close their weekend by hosting Colby on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
