#14 Panthers Roll Past Mules 15-7

The #14 Middlebury men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, rolling past Colby 15-7.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Mules struck first, opening the scoring at the 12:29 mark of the initial quarter. Jackson Alvord forced a turnover and raced down the field before Bennett Goller found nylon for the 1-0 edge.
  • Middlebury responded with four unanswered tallies. John McCarthy got things going just over a minute later, before a quick stick from Finn McCarthy put the Panthers in front. With just under three minutes remaining, Billy Curtis received a pass from behind the goal and scored, before Middlebury killed off a penalty, raced up the field and White tallied into the upper-right corner for the 4-1 advantage.
  • Colby cut the deficit in half (4-2) with 13:21 left on the second-quarter clock when Goller came from behind the goal and eluded goalie Hayden Kern.
  • Following back-to-back shots that rang off the pipe, Middlebury tallied a trio of goals to close out the half. Russell Thorndike scored on a laser from 20 yards out, Finn McCarthy tallied on a catch and release and Nick Marvin's sidearm shot swiped nylon for the 7-2 lead at the break.
  • With 1:15 gone in the second half, Marvin struck again, this time with an extra player to increase the advantage to 8-2.
  • The Mules trimmed the lead to four (8-4) with a pair of quick markers. Easton Ballo slipped his shot inside the right pipe as the shot clock expired, before Thacher McCoy tallied an over-the-shoulder marker with 9:04 to go.
  • With 3:55 left on the clock, Will Spehr crossed in front of the crease and deposited the ball into the goal while falling to the ground.
  • Just over a minute later, Curtis made it 10-4 with an over-the-shoulder goal as a pair of defenders closed in on him.
  • Gavin Rothenberg cut the deficit to five (10-5) at the 2:20 mark while falling to the ground.
  • A quick-stick tally from Cooper DeMallie with eight ticks on the third-quarter clock gave Middlebury the 11-5 advantage.
  • White completed his hat trick at the 12:40 mark, bouncing his shot off the left pipe to the right and into the goal to make it 12-5.
  • Justin Turley tallied a speedy goal seconds after the ensuing faceoff and Rothenberg scooped and scored to slice the lead to 12-7 with 9:14 remaining.
  • That was as close as the Mules got as the Panthers responded with three-straight goals to close out the game. DeMallie sparked the run with a sidearm shot, before White faked the goalie and tucked his shot inside the right pipe and Will Ford capped the span for the 15-7 triumph.
