The Middlebury softball team dropped a NESCAC doubleheader to #23 Williams on Sunday. The squad fell 7-0 in the opener before dropping the second contest by an 8-2 decision.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Justine Dunaway gave the visitors a 2-0 lead with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the first.
- The Ephs threatened during the third, as Alysa DeQuiroz tallied a single and Sydney Fleming walked. Abigail Jankowski pitched out of the jam with a lineout, strikeout and pop out.
- Middlebury put runners on the corners in the bottom of the inning with Skylar Wong reaching on a fielding error and Carroll bunting a single, but Sadie Leonard tallied a strikeout to keep the Panthers off the board.
- Williams added to its lead during the fifth with five runs for a 7-0 victory.Â
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Williams grabbed a 2-0 edge to begin the contest with a two-run homer to right center by Fleming.
- Olivia Scholes looked to provide a spark with a two-out double in the bottom half before advancing to third on a wild pitch, but the Panther was left stranded.
- The Ephs extended their lead during the third. With two outs, Katie Blanch plated Vicky Trujillo Balderas with a base knock to right field and later scored on a double to right center by Dunaway to make it 4-0.
- Middlebury manufactured back-to-back hits with a double to right center by Jennifer Westphal and a single by Caitlin Stanley in the fourth. Blanch pitched out of the jam with consecutive groundouts to keep the four-run lead.
- Dunaway tallied her second double of the contest into the left field gap to push the Ephs' lead to 6-0 in the fifth stanza.
- Lauren Davis plated the seventh score of the game an inning later with an RBI single to left field.
- Williams pushed their eighth tally across in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Kaia Glickman.
- The Panthers found the scoreboard during the bottom half with RBIs from Fleming and Scholes for the final 8-2 score.
NOTES
- Carroll had three hits over the doubleheader, moving her two behind the single-season record.
- The programs met for the 73rd and 74th times.
Middlebury continues its homestand with a doubleheader against Colby on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The program will honor seniors Samantha Hausman, Abigail Jankowski and Nina Schroeder before the contest.
