Early Momentum Pushes #8 Panthers To 6-1 Victory Over #10 Amherst

The #8 Middlebury women's tennis team raced out to a 3-0 lead, cruising to a 6-1 triumph against #10 Amherst on Sunday from the Ludlow Tennis Club.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sahana Raman and Nina Farhat tallied their fifth-straight victory as a duo with a 6-1 triumph at #1.
  • The Mammoths countered, as Amy Cui and Katie Hart won 6-3 in the second slot.
  • The pairing of Nathalie van der Reis and Lulu Wu clinched the doubles point in a 6-3 victory at #3 to put Middlebury ahead 1-0.
  • The Panthers kept the momentum going in singles. Elsie Van Wieran (6-1, 6-1) and Raman (6-2, 6-3) each tallied straight-set victories in the second and first spots, respectively, to push Middlebury's lead to 3-0.
  • In the fifth slot, van der Reis secured the match, winning each set by identical 6-3 score lines over Tina She.
  • Charlotte McCann (#6) and Wu (#4) each earned straight-set triumphs to make the score 5-0.
  • Amherst claimed the final point of the day with Cui narrowly winning a three-set marathon (6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 10-8) at #3 against Claudia Miller.

NOTES

  • Raman has now triumphed in five-straight singles matches.
  • The Panthers have tallied a victory in 14 out of the last 15 matchups with the Mammoths.

Middlebury hits the road for five consecutive matches in California. The squad begins the trip with a contest against #22 University of Redlands on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
