Baseball Takes Two At Stevens

The Middlebury baseball team shut out Stevens in a pair of games on Sunday, cruising 6-0 in the opener and 10-0 in the nightcap. 
 
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Gus Parker scampered home on a groundout by Carter Chi, before a triple by Owen Fox drove in Ben Slaughter.
  • Another groundout by Chi in the fourth brought Cooper Bohlig across the plate to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • In the top of the fifth, Kyle McCausland tallied an RBI ground, and Anthony Pellagrini touched home on a base hit from Bohlig for the 5-0 advantage.
  • Middlebury capped the scoring in the sixth when Aidan Han drove in Chi with a single to left field for the 6-0 triumph. 
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Chi picked up where he left off, singling up the middle in the second inning to plate Fox. 
  • Later in the inning, Chi and Joe Basso touched home when Brayden Mathews blasted a single to right field. McCausland closed the scoring on a double down the left line to bring in a pair of runs and give the Panthers a 5-0 lead.
  • Fox scored again in the third on a double play, while a base-knock up the middle by Mathews brought Basso across to make it 7-0.
  • McCausland belted a roundtripper over the center field wall for the solo score in the fourth.
  • A pair of walks in the ninth brought home McCausland and Ashley for the 10-0 triumph. 
NOTES
  • In the first game, Parker went 2-for-2 at the plate with one run and one RBI.
  • Justin Lessing earned the win on the mound in the opener, striking out five over a pair of innings. Jacob Sherf tallied the triumph in the nightcap, striking out two over 1.1 innings.
  • In the second contest, McCausland was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and three runs batted in. Mathews had a trio of RBI on two hits.
  • The teams played for the fourth and fifth times, with Middlebury grabbing its first two in the series. 
The Panthers host Vermont State University-Lyndon on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
