The Middlebury baseball team grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, but Vermont State University Lyndon (VTSU Lyndon) answered with five runs in the fifth and held on for a 6-4 triumph on Thursday.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Hornets looked to score in the top of the third. Evan Duncan laced a two-out double that one-hopped the wall in center field, before moving to third on a wild pitch, but Middlebury pitcher Nico Tambascia struck out the next batter and ended the opportunity.
- The Panthers took a 1-0 edge when Kyle McCausland launched a home run over the left-field wall in the bottom of the fourth.
- Lyndon answered with five tallies in the fifth, sparked by a two-run triple down the right-field line from Carter Paquette to plate a pair. Sean Dunton brought Paquette home on a fielder's choice to make it 3-1, Matt Gonyeau drew a walk with the bases loaded and a double play pushed across the fifth run for a 5-1 Hornet advantage.
- Lyndon tacked on a single run in the sixth. Dale Ostermann reached on an infield single to shortstop and later touched the plate on a fielder's choice to give the visitors a five-run lead (6-1).
- Middlebury cut the deficit to 6-3 in the seventh. Carter Chi started the stanza with a single and Issac Rosario walked before the duo stole second and third. Brian Olson roped an opposite-field base hit to left, driving in both runners.
- In the home half of the ninth, Joe Basso began the inning with a double into the right-field corner and later scored on a Lyndon fielding error to pull within two (6-4). Hornet pitcher Alberto Bustamante closed the door by recording a flyout to earn the save.
