#8 Women’s Tennis Cruises To Sweep of Hamilton

The eighth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team opened NESCAC action with a 7-0 sweep on Saturday over Hamilton from Drumlins Tennis Club in Syracuse, New York.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Starting in doubles, Elise Van Wieren and Claudia Miller tallied a 6-2 triumph at #2.
  • Nathalie van der Reis and Lulu Wu clinched the first point of the match with a 6-2 win in the third slot
  • The #1 tandem of Nina Farhat and Sahana Raman also secured a 6-4 victory.
  • In singles action, Charlotte McCann pushed the Panthers ahead 2-0 with a straight-set triumph (6-0, 6-0) in the fifth slot.
  • Miller followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #3 to put Middlebury on the doorstep.
  • In the fourth spot, Wu clinched the match with her 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hannah Walpole.
  • Raman tallied her first victory of the spring season, claiming a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hannah Adsey in the top slot.
  • Van Wieran earned a straight-set victory (6-4, 6-0) at #2 to make the score 6-0.
  • In the longest match of the day, Anna Lardner battled with Samantha Rainero in the sixth position. Lardner rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the opener to knot the set at 6-6. Lardner earned the 7-1 triumph in the tiebreaker before claiming a 7-5 victory in the second set for the 7-0 final score.

NOTES

  • Miller earned her 60th career singles victory while McCann hit the 20 win plateau
  • The Panthers have claimed each of the 13th matchups against the Continentals.

Middlebury closes its conference weekend slate against #10 Amherst on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. from the Ludlow Tennis Club.
