Billy Curtis broke the program record for most points in a single game with 12 (6G, 6A) to help lead the #15 Middlebury men's lacrosse team to a 20-6 victory over Springfield on Tuesday. The Panthers had 12 different players record at least a point in the triumph.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Curtis opened the scoring about two minutes into the first quarter, burying the ball into the left panel off a feed from Patrick Jamin for a 1-0 edge.
- The Panthers added three more goals over 4:05 from Logan White, Russell Thorndike and Jamin to extend their lead to 4-0 with 8:07 remaining.
- Springfield cut the deficit to three (4-1) on a quick pass from Rory Scanlon to Kevin Tierney at the 6:17 mark.
- Middlebury answered with two markers from Finn McCarthy for a 6-1 advantage after the opening 15 minutes.
- The home team continued its offensive surge in the second stanza, outscoring the Pride 5-1 for an 11-2 lead at the halftime break. All five markers were scored by different Panthers.
- Springfield opened the scoring 45 seconds into the final stanza off the stick of Scanlon for a 15-4 game.
- The Panthers kept their foot on the gas pedal, scoring five of the final seven goals to earn the 20-6 triumph.
NOTES
- Curtis' 12 eclipse Middlebury Hall of Famer Jeff Thomsen '83 for the most all-time in a single game. Thomsen set the record of 11 in a 25-3 victory over the University of New Haven in the ECAC Playoffs on May 10, 1983. The Panther also moved into fifth all-time with 218 career points
- Jamin (2G, 4A) and White (3G, 2A)Â also helped pace Middlebury's offense.
- Ged Gengras, Jack Gunning and Misha Trupo scored their first-career goals.
- Middlebury has now won 38 games in the series against Springfield, including seven-straight matchups.
