#8 Women’s Tennis Concludes Spring Trip With 5-2 Triumph At Concordia

The eighth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team wrapped up its spring trip in California with a 5-2 victory on Friday Division II foe Concordia University Irvine.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Golden Eagles earned a 6-3 victory at #1 doubles to begin the match before clinching the point with a 6-4 triumph in the third spot.
  • Lulu Wu and Nathalie van der Reis followed shortly after with a 6-4 win over Jessica Bear and Olivia Da Re.
  • Sahana Raman leveled the match at 1-1 to open singles play, securing a 7-5, 6-2 triumph in the top spot for the Panthers. 
  • Middlebury took a 2-1 edge when Charlotte McCann won by set scores of 6-0 and 7-6 (5) in the #2 slot.
  • Nina Farhat kept the momentum rolling, posting a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the third spot to give the Panthers a 3-1 lead.
  • The visitors clinched the match when Gusty Beveridge eased to a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5.
  • Anna Lardner battled back after dropping the opening set 6-3 in the fourth slot against Da Re, taking the second 6-3 to set up a tiebreaker. Lardner secured the back-and-forth battle with a 7-6(4) triumph in the decisive third.
  • In the last match on the courts at #6, Panther Elizabeth Doak recorded a 6-2 opening-set win, but Concordia's Pia Starnecker leveled the tally with a 6-1 victory in the second frame. Starnecker edged Doak in the superbreaker (10-8) for the final 5-2 score.
NOTES
  • Raman secured her 75th career victory in singles play.
  • Beveridge tallied her first collegiate win during dual matches.
  • The programs played for just the second time with Middlebury winning the other contest via a 6-1 decision in 2022.
The Panthers return east and jump back into NESCAC play next Saturday with a 10:00 a.m. contest at #14 Tufts.
