#8 Middlebury Drops 5-2 Decision At #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

The eighth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team fell behind after a tight doubles point by #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) and was unable to recover. The Athenas claimed the match by a score of 5-2. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • CMS earned a 6-3 victory at #2 doubles to begin the match, but Nina Farhat and Sahana Raman were triumphant by the same score in the top spot.
  • In the clincher at #3, Nathalie van der Reis and Lulu Wu forced a tiebreaker against Athenas Ella Brissett and Muduo Zhou. The CMS pair jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but Middlebury roared back fighting off three game points. The Panthers were eventually edged 11-9 as CMS grabbed the 1-0 edge.
  • Van der Reis regained the momentum and claimed a quick point in the fifth spot (6-1, 6-2) to knot the contest at 1-1.
  • The Panthers took a 2-1 edge when Elsie Van Wieren won both sets by 6-3 decisions in the second spot.
  • That was as close as Middlebury got, as CMS earned straight-set wins at #3, #4 and #6 to secure the victory.
  • The battle at the top went the distance, forcing a tiebreaker, before Lindsay Eisenman edged Raman 8-6 to give CMS the 5-2 triumph. 
NOTES
  • Farhat and Raman claimed their ninth-straight doubles win.  
Middlebury wraps up its spring trip on Friday, traveling to Division II Concordia University Irvine for a 1:00 p.m. ET match.
