The #8 Middlebury women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its season with a resounding 7-0 victory against Skidmore.
This year, Division III is piloting the seven-point system for scoring, where winning two-of-three doubles matches provides one point.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The tandem of Claudia Miller and Elsie Van Wieren shut out their opponents in the second spot to start the day.
- Nathalie van der Reis and Lulu Wu secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win at #3, before the duo of Sahana Raman and Nina Farhat secured a 6-2 triumph at the top of the lineup.
- Wu continued her winning ways in singles action, grabbing the initial point with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
- Miller claimed both sets by 6-2 scores in the second slot, before Van der Reis clinched the match with consecutive 6-3 triumphs at #4.
- Van Wieren edged her opponent in an opening-set tiebreaker before shutting her out in the second to grab a point at #1.
- Fresh out for singles, Charlotte McCann took care of business with a straight-set (6-1, 6-0) triumph in the fifth spot.
- Farhat closed out the match at #6, relinquishing just one game (6-1, 6-0).
NOTES
- The programs played for the 48th time with Middlebury claiming its 31st triumph in the series.
The Panthers hit the road for a nine-match road stretch, including spring break in California. The squad starts things off when it plays at Hamilton on Saturday and #9 Amherst on Sunday.
