#8 Women’s Tennis Eases Past #17 Babson 5-2

The #8 Middlebury women's tennis team eased past #17 Babson 5-2 on Wednesday. The match was hosted by Redlands at the Coach Jim Verdieck Tennis Center.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers got out to a quick start as duo Nina Farhat and Sahana Raman blanked their opponents 6-0 in the top spot.
  • Nathalie van der Reis and Lulu Wu cruised to a 6-2 win at #3 to secure the doubles point, before Claudia Miller and Elsie Van Wieren claimed the middle match with a 7-4 tiebreaker.
  • Van der Reis won both of her sets in the fourth spot by 6-2 scores, before Wu recorded back-to-back 6-1 triumphs to make it 3-0.
  • Olivia Soffer got the Beavers on the board with a tight victory (7-5, 6-4) at #1, while Christiana Matia cut the deficit to one (3-2) by identical scores in the second spot.
  • The match was clinched by Charlotte McCann in the fifth slot, tallying a 6-2 opening-set win, before triumphing 7-4 in the tiebreaker.
  • Farhat secured the 5-2 victory with a thrilling match at #6. The Panther fell 7-4 in a tiebreaker during the opening frame but came back for a 6-3 win in the second. The final set was a back-and-forth affair, as Farhat hung on to claim the superbreaker by a 10-5 score. 
NOTES
  • The programs played for just the third time, with Middlebury winning each meeting.
  • Miller claimed her 70th career doubles win, while van der Reis earned her 35th triumph during singles play
The Panthers return to action on Thursday when they square off with #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 2:00 p.m. ET.
