Panthers Stack All-American Honors At NCAA Indoor Championships

MacLean earned All-American status via her sixth-place finish in the 5,000 meter run.

The Middlebury women's track and field team earned three All-American nods at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Rochester, New York. The two-day meet is being held at the Golisano Training Center.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • In her first indoor championship, Audrey MacLean took part in the 5000 meter run. Sitting 13th after the opening 400, MacLean started her rise, eventually reaching fifth at 1,400 meters. She clocked a 39.45 over the final 200 to cross the finish line sixth overall with a time of 16:58.25 to garner First Team All-American status. 
  • Emily Rubio competed in the pentathlon for the second time in the last three indoor championships. She rewrote the record books in the event, besting her previous mark of 3,554 points with a total of 3,603 to claim seventh overall and First Team All-American honors.
  • Rubio placed inside the top-eight spots in three of five events, highlighted by a fifth-place effort in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.07. 
  • In the final event of the day, the Panthers competed in the distance medley relay (DMR). The quartet of Naomi Atwood, Mary Elliot, Elle Thompson and Bea Parr combined for a time of 11:50.37 to snag eighth overall and the final Panther All-American laurel.

NOTES

  • MacLean tallied her second First Team All-American honor. She claimed sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase at the 2024 outdoor championships.
  • Rubio's sixth-place effort bests her 12th-place showing during the 2023 championships.
  • As a program, Middlebury now has 11 DMR All-American teams. 
  • The Panthers' six All-American athletes are the most in a completed championship since the team tallied nine in 2016.

After two days of action, Middlebury finishes in a tie for 36th place with six points. The Panthers head to San Diego, California to kick off their spring season at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational hosted by Point Loma. Competition begins at 9:00 a.m. Saturday with the women's high jump.
