The Middlebury men's basketball team led by as many as 21 points in the opening half and held off a late charge by Colby to secure an 87-74 victory. Prior to the start of the competition, the Panthers honored seniors

Sam Stevens.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Middlebury got off to a quick start, taking a 12-2 lead over the opening 4:36 with Stevens accounting for eight of the team's points during the span.
- The Panthers continued to pull away as a three-pointer from Kuba Cwalina gave the squad its largest advantage of the game (34-13) with five minutes left in the half.
- The Mules answered with a 7-0 burst sparked by five points from Max Poulton to make it 34-20 with 3:23 to go.
- Middlebury followed with four consecutive points to extend the cushion back out to 18 (38-20) and the team maintained the advantage as a last-minute jumper from Stevens made it 43-25 at the break.
- Colby came out of the locker room firing, rattling off a 24-8 run over the opening 9:26 to cut the deficit to just two points (53-51) on a three from Dan Civello.
- The Panthers responded with a 10-3 surge capped by a shot from beyond the arc by Sawyer Ramey for a 63-54 lead with 9:13 to go.
- Trailing by 10 with 8:24 left in the game, the Mules made another push for a comeback, slicing the Middlebury advantage to four (68-64) on a free throw from Jack Lawson at the 5:55 mark.
- That was as close as Colby would get, as the Panthers responded with a 13-4 run to extend the lead to 81-68 on a three from Cwalina with 2:52 left on the clock.
- The Mules were forced to foul down the stretch, and Middlebury converted six-of-six from the charity stripe to secure the 87-74 victory.
NOTES
- Stevens led all players with a career-high 29 points while knocking down a career-best four three-pointers.
- Edward Witherington had a season-high three blocks and sank the most charity tosses in his career (six).
- Middlebury and Colby played for the 68th time as the Panthers claimed their 30th win in the series.
Middlebury wraps up regular season action next weekend, heading to Amherst (Friday) and Hamilton (Saturday).
