Women’s Track & Field Competes At Pair Of Boston-Area Meets

Bea Parr won the mile on Saturday at Tufts.
The Middlebury women's track and field team competed in a pair of meets this weekend in the Boston area. The Panthers sent competitors to the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational and the Tufts Stampede Open. The BU Invitational featured professionals and student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions.
 
HEMERY VALENTINE INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Katie Bruno paced the Panthers with a 28th-place finish in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 8.04 seconds.
  • Two Middlebury runners posted top-50 efforts in the 400, as Anna Krouse was 31st (58.63) and Addie Morrison was 49th (59.56). 
  • Krouse narrowly missed a top-half effort in the 200, racing to 54th at 26.31.
TUFTS STAMPEDE OPEN HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers posted a quartet of event victories. Bea Parr led the field to the line in the mile with a time of 5:04.79.
  • A few events later, Audrey MacLean claimed the 5,000 with a clocking of 16:59.91 in her first appearance in the event this season.
  • Macy Daggitt picked up a victory in the long jump, hitting the sand with a distance of 5.55 meters.
  • Julia Tulimieri claimed the shot put title, heaving the weight to a winning mark of 12.10m.
  • Emily Rubio collected a pair of runner-up finishes. She was second in the 60 hurdles (9.18), while securing a second-place showing in the high jump with a clearance of 1.61m.
  • Another top-two effort came in the second-longest event of the meet as Shea Fajen completed the 3,000 with a time of 10:29.83.
  • Fourth-place finishes came from Emma Mills in the 60 hurdles (9.40), Caroline VanSchaick during the 800 (2:21.43), Adrienne Christy in the 1,000 (3:10.87) and Lilly Wurtz during the weight throw (15.10m). 
  • Naomi Gomel rounded out the top-five finishes with a clocking of 3:10.97 in the 1,000.
NOTES
  • Christy's run in the 1,000 shaved 13.62 seconds off her collegiate best in the event.
  • Rubio's preliminary time of 9.05 was a career-best clocking in the 60 hurdles, while Mills also secured a career-low effort.
  • VanSchaick's effort in the 800 lowered her collegiate-best time by 0.16 seconds.
The Panthers have a week off from action before returning to the Bay State to compete in the Division III Indoor New England Championships.
