Men’s Hockey Eases Past Connecticut College 6-0

The Middlebury men's hockey team defeated Connecticut College 6-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the squad avenged a tight 2-1 loss from earlier this season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers looked to get on the board 3:30 into the first period with a shot from Bobby May from the point that Camels netminder Kellen Beauton snagged with his glove.
  • Just 1:09 later, Middlebury had a quality chance when Max Noll ripped a shot from the top of the faceoff circle, but Beauton used his chest to thwart the attempt.
  • Will Lawrence fired a one-timer on Panther goalie Andrew Heinze from between the circles with 10:08 remaining, but Heinze tucked the puck into his chest to make the stop.
  • Middlebury took a 1-0 lead with 2:21 left in the opening period. Jack Silverman raced up the ice and slid the puck to Dante Palombo. The duo had a bang-bang sequence as Palombo slid a pass back to Silverman in front of the net, who one-timed it over the left pad of Beauton.
  • Connecticut College had an opportunity on the power play when Andrew Eberling shot through traffic, but Heinze got his left pad on it to make the stop with 4:56 left on the clock.
  • At the 16:54 mark of the second stanza, Shane Zarcone created a short-handed chance for the Camels. He passed up to Reid Shafer, who fired a one-timer that Heinze saved off his blocker.
  • Middlebury increased the advantage to 2-0 with 1:41 off the third-period clock. Jin Lee one-timed a pass from Andrew Seaman from behind the goal, tucking the puck inside the right pipe.
  • The Panthers tacked on another tally with 4:32 elapsed. Matt Myers gathered the rebound on an initial shot by Palombo, shoveling the puck past Beauton for a 3-0 advantage.
  • Middlebury tallied its third goal of the period at the 10:26 mark. Silverman sliced a pass to Christian Wood, whose shot rang from between the circles and over Beauton's shoulder for a 4-0 lead.
  • Middlebury added another goal less than a minute later. Palombo's initial attempt from the doorstep was thwarted, but Jackson Morehouse snagged the rebound and sent it in from the left post.
  • Michael Fairfax closed the 6-0 win for the Panthers by grabbing a loose rebound and ripping a top-shelf bid with 3:31 remaining.
