Williams Downs Volleyball in NESCAC Quarterfinals

The sixth-seeded Middlebury volleyball team eclipsed the 20-point threshold in all four sets of Saturday's NESCAC Quarterfinals, but ultimately dropped a 3-1 decision to third-seeded Williams. With the win, the Ephs move on to next weekend's conference semifinal on the campus of top-seeded Wesleyan.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Knotted at 12-12, Williams claimed four of five points to lead 16-13. The visitors responded with a 6-1 surge, headlined by two scoring swings from Molly Harrison, to take a 19-17 edge.
  • Chi Obi and Keely Campuzano combined for four kills in the final 11 points, powering an 8-3 Ephs spurt to claim the set (25-22).
  • The Panthers built a 9-4 advantage early in the second session. Harrison led the charge with four accurate attacks in the opening.
  • Annaliese Fricke landed four scoring swings to ignite a 10-4 run, pushing the hosts ahead 14-13 and prompting a Middlebury timeout.
  • Following the stoppage, the Panthers nabbed six of the ensuing seven points to lead by four at 19-15. Harrison delivered two service aces amidst the charge.
  • Williams closed the frame with a 10-3 push, using four combined kills from Obi and Kate Lane to seal the 25-22 decision.
  • Harrison and Molly MacDonald combined for five kills to headline an 11-6 Middlebury surge to open the third stanza.
  • The conference foes jockeyed for position over the ensuing 15 points. Campbell Keller launched two service aces to help the navy and white take eight of those to lead 19-13 and force an Eph timeout.
  • The hosts parried with five consecutive points to pull within one, 19-18, but three Panthers logged accurate attacks in a 6-2 sprint to help Middlebury force a fourth set, 25-20.
  • Fricke tallied two scoring swings to spark a 7-2 surge at the fourth session's outset. Lillian Caldwell hammered a pair of kills to help the guests take five straight and tie the set at 7-7.
  • Lilly Fox added two accurate attacks in the next four points to open up a 10-8 Williams lead. Middlebury rallied with a 7-1 spurt that saw MacDonald land two scoring swings (15-11).
  • The Ephs controlled action late in the frame, stacking 14 points against seven and allowing consecutive points once in the close-out. Chi Obi led the run with five kills to secure the set (25-22) and the match.
NOTES
  • Harrison logged her 12th double-double of the campaign (11 kills, 13 digs) and 45th as a Panther.
  • Bartley recorded her 18th effort with 30 or more helpers.
  • Rando matched her four-set career-high with 26 digs.
  • The sides met for the 60th matchup in the all-time series and eighth in the NESCAC Tournament.
Middlebury awaits its NCAA Tournament fate when the full field is released on Sunday, November 16, at a time to be announced.
