Middlebury Handles Amherst in Senior Night Sweep

The Middlebury volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 triumph over Amherst on Friday evening inside Pepin Gymnasium. Before the match, the program honored seniors Lillian Caldwell, Campbell Keller and Ava Tuccio.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Holding a 6-5 edge in the initial set, the hosts rolled out an 8-2 run to establish a 14-7 lead. Gabby Pribisich logged a scoring swing and a service ace in the surge.
  • The Mammoths claimed five of the next seven points, powered by two accurate attacks from Gabrielle Hines, to cut the margin to 16-12.
  • Caldwell landed three kills amidst another 8-2 spurt that brought Middlebury to set point, 24-14. The visitors recorded three straight, but Molly MacDonald finalized the 25-17 opening frame victory with a scoring swing.
  • The Panthers kept their opposition at bay early in the second session, opening up an 11-4 advantage. Molly Harrison and MacDonald each posted a pair of accurate attacks in the span.
  • The sides traded the next 14 points before Amherst rallied with a 5-2 run to trim the deficit to 20-16.
  • Tuccio helped fend off the Mammoths late in the stanza, firing a kill to close out a 5-3 stint and seal the 25-19 win.
  • The visitors carved out a 9-6 lead to begin the third set. Hines and Tiana Richardson each picked up a scoring swing during the stretch.
  • The Panthers rattled off eight consecutive points to flip the momentum (14-9). Harrison launched three straight kills during the surge.
  • After a split of the next eight points, Middlebury made the final push with a 7-2 run to earn the set decision (25-15) and finalize the match. Caldwell tallied a trio of accurate attacks, while Sophie Horn posted the match-sealing scoring swing.
NOTES
  • Harrison became the seventh Panther in program history to eclipse 1,000 kills in the match, logging 13 kills with a 0.462 hitting percentage.
  • Caldwell finished with a season-high 11 accurate attacks
  • Campbell Bartley tallied 30 or more assists for the 17th time.
  • Middlebury's 0.341 hitting percentage is the best for the squad in a conference matchup this season.
  • The programs met for the 51st time.
Middlebury concludes the regular season tomorrow against Hamilton at 2:00 p.m.
