Volleyball Secures Third Consecutive Sweep at Bates

The Middlebury volleyball team claimed its seventh consecutive victory and third straight sweep on Friday evening, storming back in the third set to claim a 3-0 win at Bates.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • After splitting the initial eight points with the Bobcats, the Panthers rattled off seven consecutive points to lead 11-4. Gabby Pribisich and Caroline Byrne tallied scoring swings in the run.
  • Bates countered with a 5-1 spurt to slice the margin to 12-10. Molly MacDonald posted a pair of kills to help Middlebury split the next 10 points, but accurate attacks by Sofia Castiglioni and Kate Norry sparked a 4-0 stint to give the hosts the edge, 19-17.
  • Byrne powered the Panthers late, landing three scoring swings during an 8-4 surge to secure the 25-23 win.
  • Molly Harrison picked up three kills to push Middlebury ahead 6-2 in the second stanza.
  • Four different Bobcats added accurate attacks in a row to tie the frame (6-6) before Byrne, Harrison and Pribisich compiled four kills in six points to lead 11-7.
  • After splitting the next eight points, the Panthers claimed 10 of the final 13 points to nab the second set, 25-15. Pribisich recorded a pair of scoring swings to close out the session.
  • Bates raced out to a 13-4 advantage in the final set, led by a trio of accurate attacks by Anais Reneaum.
  • Middlebury roared back, tallying a 19-7 jolt to storm ahead 23-20. Pribisich paced the Panther attack with five successful swings over the stretch.
  • Ava Tuccio tallied two kills in the final five points to secure the set (25-23) and the match.
NOTES
  • Pribisich finished with 12 accurate attacks and a .500 hitting percentage while adding five total blocks in the sweep.
  • Byrne recorded 10 scoring swings and added seven digs, while Harrison added eight kills and a match-high four service aces.
  • Campbell Bartley tallied her 11th match of 35 or more helpers (36) in the triumph.
  • The programs squared off for the 38th time with Middlebury owning a 26-12 advantage in the series.
The Panthers wrap the weekend road trip against #25 Tufts tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
