#10 Women’s Soccer Controls Tempo in 1-0 Win Over Bates

The 10th-ranked Middlebury women's soccer team controlled the bulk of Saturday's match en route to a 1-0 win over Bates at the Allan Dragone Track and Field Complex. Before the contest, the Panthers honored seniors Livia Davidson, Carolina Espinosa and Roshann Purcell.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The hosts' first quality chance came with 15:47 expired. Espinosa dialed up a bid from 25 yards out toward the lower-left corner, but Bobcats goalie Sydney Litney slid over to make the save.
  • Middlebury broke through in the 19th minute. Mia Feldman stepped to a deflection on the edge of the penalty box and fired a shot that squeaked between the goalie's glove and the crossbar, pushing the Panthers ahead 1-0.
  • Feldman nearly struck again with 2:23 left in the half, roping a strong bid to the upper-90. Litney fully extended for the stop.
  • Aurora Rella-Neill created a chance for Bates with 48:06 gone, powering an attempt from the left side that narrowly missed the upper-right corner.
  • Gwyn Jamison sent a skipping shot to the center of the goal with 36:44 remaining. Davidson tracked the ball and fell on the try.
  • The Panthers eyed a second tally with 22:48 left. Mari Rode flicked a quick feed to Taya McClennen just outside the box, whose attempt sailed toward the upper-middle of the goal. Bobcats' goalie Brady Jacobson jumped to make the one-handed save.
  • McClennen placed another shot on target in the 78th minute with a bending bid that Jacobson dropped to deny.
  • Bates' final opportunity came with 1:54 remaining. Rachel Suh got her head to a long free kick delivered into the box, but Davidson snuffed out the shot to secure the 1-0 final.
NOTES
  • Feldman netted her third marker of the campaign.
  • With the win, the program eclipsed double-digit wins for the seventh time in the last nine seasons.
  • Middlebury extended its winning streak over the Bobcats to nine consecutive matches.
