#10 Women’s Soccer Drops Regular-Season Finale at #12 Williams

The 10th-ranked Middlebury women's soccer team dropped its regular-season finale to #12 Williams by a 1-0 score on Tuesday afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Elizabeth Stophel logged the hosts' first chance with 4:12 gone, stepping in front of a pass on the right side of the field and firing a bending bid that clanged off the left post.
  • Chloe Swindle timed a run perfectly in the sixth minute, settling a long ball from Caroline Espinosa for a one-on-one look with Ephs' goalie Margaret Huelin. She kicked her right foot out to deny the opportunity.
  • Williams aimed to capitalize on its first corner kick of the contest with 36:30 remaining in the half. Stophel camped out near the left post and nearly deflected the delivery in, but Panthers goalie Livia Davidson moved to her right to make the save.
  • Stophel stole the ball from Middlebury with 28:55 expired and sprinted up the field before firing a bid intended for the lower-right corner. Davidson dove to her left and caught the attempt.
  • In the 34th minute, Kjersti Moritz blocked a Williams clear attempt and ran to the right edge of the box. The Panther sent a shot towards the upper-right corner that Huelin jumped to deny.
  • The Ephs created their final chance of the session with 43:26 elapsed, sending a corner out of the box to a waiting Paige Nelson, whose bid from 25 yards out sailed over the crossbar by inches.
  • Stophel nearly put the hosts in front in the 62nd minute, roping a low-center try that Davidson fell on for the save.
  • Williams broke through just 31 seconds later when Stophel found Maya Lloyd on a backdoor cut. Lloyd tucked her look in the lower-left corner to establish a 1-0 edge.
  • Davidson prevented the margin from growing with 27:27 left, jumping to her left to block a shot by Lloyd from the right side of the box that was heading for the upper-right corner.
  • Wynne Braemer launched an attempt that tested Huelin with 80:16 played, but the goalie read the opportunity the whole way and tucked it away.
  • Gigi Day generated the final chance with six seconds left, but Huelin made the save to finalize the 1-0 decision.
NOTES
  • Davidson turned away nine Williams bids in the match to tie her best mark as a Panther.
  • The programs battled for the 61st time in the all-time series.
The NESCAC Women's Soccer Tournament seedings will be announced on Wednesday morning after the final regular-season conference contest concludes.
