Volleyball Drops Five-Set Showdown With Babson at New England Challenge

The Middlebury volleyball team fell in five sets against Babson to open this weekend's action at the New England Challenge. The two-day event is hosted by Springfield College.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Knotted at 11-11 in the initial set, the Panthers grinded out an 8-5 spurt to establish a 19-16 edge. Gabby Pribisich and Molly Harrison combined for five scoring swings in the sequence.
  • Two kills from Isabella Allen helped the Beavers claim five of the next seven points and tie the frame at 21-21.
  • Middlebury posted a slim 4-3 run to lead 25-24 and prompt a timeout. Liberty May and Hailey Fouche landed accurate attacks after the break before May tallied a service ace to secure a 27-25 decision for Babson.
  • The Panthers built an 11-4 lead in the second session, led by Pribisich with two scoring swings. A split of the next 16 points established a 19-12 advantage for the navy and white.
  • Three attack errors and a bad set helped Middlebury close out the second frame, taking six of the last eight points to earn a 25-14 triumph.
  • Tied 6-6 early in the third stanza, a pair of kills from Angelina Holm and Devin Burke sparked a 9-4 run to put the Beavers ahead 14-11.
  • The Panthers took four of the next five, but Babson used eight straight points amidst a 10-2 surge to seal the third set, 25-17.
  • Middlebury cruised to a 13-4 advantage in the fourth frame, led by two scoring swings from Molly MacDonald. The Beavers doubled up the Panthers 11-5 to cut the lead to three (18-15) with Allen tallying two kills in the run.
  • Pribisich delivered two accurate attacks in the final 10 points, igniting a 7-3 sprint to seal a 25-18 win and force the fifth set.
  • The sides split the first 12 points to begin the session before a 5-1 Babson spurt prompted a Middlebury stoppage. Ailsa Munro and Allen logged successful attacks to help the Beavers take four of the next seven to take the set (15-10) and the match.
NOTES
  • Pribisich led the Panthers with 16 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
  • Harrison logged 13 scoring swings and 17 digs for her 10th double-double of the season while adding five total blocks.
  • Annabella Rando recorded a team-high 19 digs and four service aces.
  • The programs battled for the 11th time with the Panthers holding a narrow 6-5 edge in the all-time series
Middlebury continues action in the New England Challenge tomorrow, squaring off with #16 MIT at 11:00 a.m. before battling host Springfield at 3:00 p.m.
